I do this as a producer when selling a film.

I do this as a film producer if I want to sell a film.

One of the mistakes I see when filmmakers approach the funds or distribution part of their film is suffering and publicly complaining about how hard it is to find the money.

Of course, it will be hard if you have already decided on it.

So, what I do is practice mindset every day.

Having the right mindset is only a tiny part, but it is important for making the selling and money process easier. There is also a lot of strategy and planning behind it, and today, I share four practices I use to sell my films more easily.

🎥 I create the important documents in advance so when I need to apply for a fund, for a grand, or talk to an investor, I already have the document ready, and I don’t need to stress out about it. These documents are the film business plan, marketing plan, slide deck, and more.

🎥 I create a personalized database for each film I have, which includes film markets and festivals plus associations, funds, influencers, and influential people who might be interested in that kind of film. You might be surprised by all the information available on the internet.

🎥 I talk to my contacts and offer what I have. I never send anything in advance unless they ask me to. Use your network; there is always someone who knows someone who can help you, ask around, and present your film, but always with permission; you don’t start pitching your film without notice first.

🎥 Attending film markets is where networking and transactions happen. This is where the real business happens. Business people relax in this environment and are willing to talk to you. If you have someone who can introduce you to influential people in film markets, great, but if not, when you buy your accreditation, you have access to a database where you have access to people’s contact information.

Bonus: Post about it on social media. These days, everyone is on social media, and they also read, react, like, and share posts; you might be one of them.

There are many steps in between, but now you know where to start and what to do.
